It was fun growing up as “The Fundraising Guy”‘s daughter. He always gets recognized by parents and students in my neighborhood. Our garage is always filled with lame fundraising prizes like penguin key chains and monkey costumes. Also, we get lots of free cookie dough.
But I never really bothered to think about my dad’s business beyond how it directly affects me.
Today I drove with my dad to some of his schools, where he collected information from secretaries, and chatted with the principals and band teachers.
I rarely consider how much effort my dad puts into his business, but after spending a day at work with him, I was truly impressed. He remembered the names of every secretary of the schools we went into, he remembered what colleges his clients went to, what sports teamed they liked, what they were doing for the weekend, and the specific schedules of every school we went into. My dad makes a deliberate effort to build a profitable business, and I was glad I finally got to see him in action.
