Security is everywhere on this campus. I feel like I can’t turn my head without seeing a cop car, a blue light, or someone in uniform. Few nights go by where I don’t reject Safe Walk at least once.
Providence is by no means a safe city to live in, and it is easy to take for granted how comforting it is to live in such a consistently secure environment.
Today as I was walked across the deserted campus around 11:30 pm, I spotted a woman dressed in uniform standing on the corner of my street. Tonight was a particularly nice night; however, I imagine that many nights have been unbearably cold and miserable.
I walked up and introduced myself to Katie, and I quickly thanked her (and the Providence police in general) for what they do for our campus.
“Yeah of course,” she said smiling and shaking my hand. “It’s really no problem at all. We are happy to do it.”
